UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 December 19,2013 Mr. Frank Paiz, Governor Ysleta del Sur Pueblo 119 S. Old Pueblo Rd.
P 0 Box 17579 El Paso, TX 79917 SUBJECT NOTICE OF AVAILABILITY OF THE FINAL SUPPLEMENTAL ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT FOR LICENSE RENEWAL OF SOUTH TEXAS PROJECT, UNITS 1 AND 2
Dear Governor Paiz:
Please find enclosed a copy of the final NUREG-1437, "Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants, Supplement 48, Regarding South Texas Project, Units 1 and 2." The final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) is being issued as part of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC's) process to decide whether to issue renewed operating licenses to STP Nuclear Operating Company (STPNOC) for South Texas Project, Units 1 and 2 (STP). In the final SEIS, the NRC staff determined that the adverse environmental impacts of renewed licenses for STP are not great enough to deny this option for energy planning decisionmakers. In the context of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, NRC staff determined that no historic properties will be affected by the proposed action (license renewal). The final environmental impact statement, will accompany the final Safety Evaluation Report to be considered in the Commission's license renewal decision making process.
If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact Emily Larson, Social Scientist, at 301-415-1151 or by e-mail at Emily.Larson@nrc.gov.
