Southern California Edison Company P. 0. BOX 800 2244 WALNUT GROVE AVENUE ROSEMEAD. CALIFORNIA 91770 K. P. BASKIN TELEPHONE MANAGER, NUCLEAR ENGINEERING March 18, 1980 (213) 572.1401 AND LICENSING Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attention: D. L. Ziemann, Chief Operating Reactors Branch #2 Division of Operating Reactors U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. C. 20555 Gentlemen:
Subject:
Anchorage and Support of Safety Related Electrical Equipment San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 1 Mr. D. G. Eisenhut's letter of January 1, 1980 to Mr. J. H. Drake requested that an action plan be submitted with respect to the review of the anchorage and support of the safety related electrical equipment. A copy of the requested plan is provided as an enclosure to this letter.
Mr. Eisenhut's letter also addressed a potential safety concern with respect to non-seismic Category I ancillary items. This matter will be reviewed in the following manner. A team of persons will be designated to perform a walk-through of the plant prior to or during the plant refueling outage which is scheduled to commence in mid-April, 1980. Any observations of the team which indicate that non-seismic Category I ancillary items (dolleys, gas bottles, block and tackle gear, duct work, etc.), may potentially dislodge, impact and damage safety related equipment during an earthquake will be recorded.
The observations of the team will subsequently be evaluated and remedial measures which are considered necessary will be identified and implemented.
If you have any questions regarding this matter, please let us know.
Very truly yours, Enclosure 80 0.32 60 =>
