ENCLOSURE ITEM 1 Description of water pipe connections between the Service Water Reservoir (SWR) and the plant systems (e.g., Fire Protection, Charging Lines) in terms of its exposure and vulnerability to potential tornado missiles.
RESPONSE
Drawing 568776, Miscellaneous Water Systems, indicates there are two pipes which connect the SWR with the plant.
A supply pipe, 704-4"-KN1, from the Flash Evaporators to the SWR and a discharge pipe, 811-8"-KN1, from the SWR to the Fire and Service Water Pumps.
The supply pipe provides water to the SWR at an elevation above the water level in the SWR. The discharge pipe is located at the base of the SWR and removes water from the SWR by gravity. The discharge pipe is marked on Drawing 568776.
The following drawings are provided which show the routing of the discharge piping from the SWR to its connection with the Fire and Service Water Pumps.
568776 Rev. 21 Miscellaneous Water Systems 567763 Rev. 1 Service Water Reservoir 5134459 Rev. 0 Civil Utilities Plant Area 568644 Rev. 6 Reactor Auxiliary Building - Area 8 Pipe Tunnel Plan and Sections at Elevation 22'-0" 568692 Rev. 13 Outside Area - Area 14 Plan at Elevation 14'-0" 568694 Rev. 8 Outside Area - Area 14 Sections A-G These drawings indicate that the discharge piping is underground with the exception of its exit from the pipe trench behind the Spent Fuel Building.
The piping runs above ground at an elevation of 24'O" to 22'O" until it comes to the Fire and Service Water Pumps.
(See Drawing 568694 Sections E-E and B-B.)
Once the pipe reaches the vicinity of the Fire and Service Water Pumps, the piping drops down to the pumps at an approximate elevation of 15'6".
The ground level between the area of the pipe trench and the pumps varies from 14'6" and 14'O".
The only area of the discharge piping vulnerable to potential tornado missiles is where it exits the pipe trench and connects to the Fire and Service Water Pumps.
This area is located between the Spent Fuel Building and the Refueling Water Storage Tank.
In the event it becomes necessary to close the discharge line, a normally open manually operated gate valve located on the bluff can be closed (see Drawing 567763).
-2 ITEM 2 Location of feedwater regulating valves and associated piping serviced by and in the vicinity of the Auxiliary Feed Pumps.
RESPONSE
The feedwater regulating valves are located in the turbine building in Area 2. The following figures have been provided to show the location of the feedwater regulating valves and the orientation of the piping associated with these valves.

The following drawings have been provided to show the location of the pumps and the piping serviced by these pumps.
In addition, P&I Diagram 568779, Feedwater and Condensate, shows the routing of the piping for the feedwater regulating valves, the bypass regulating valves and the Auxiliary Feedwater Pumps.
- These figures were taken from the SONGS 1 Report on Effects of a Piping System Break Outside the Containment dated December 1973.

ITEM 3 Heater deck construction.
RESPONSE
One story steel frame heat platforms are on the east and west sides of the turbine building above ground level.
Each platform has approximate plan dimensions of 112 feet by 50 feet and supports an 8-1/2 inch thick prestressed concrete slab at elevation 35 feet, 6 inches.
ITEM 4 Reactor Auxiliary Building wall-roof materials and thicknesses.
RESPONSE
With the exception of the northeast corner, the reactor auxiliary building is a single story, partially embedded, reinforced concrete structure rising to about 6 feet above ground level.
The northeast corner of the reactor auxiliary building includes an additional story with roof level varying from 21 to 28 feet above ground level.
(See enclosed figures for wall and roof thicknesses).
This second story is constructed of masonry walls, conventionally reinforced concrete walls and slabs, and structural steel floor framing.
The overall dimensions of the reactor auxiliary building are approximately 134 feet by 60 feet. The northeast corner which comprises an additional story is approximately 32 feet by 41 feet.
-4 ITEM 5 Location of Regenerative Heat Exchangers (CVCS)
RESPONSE
The Regenerative Heat Exchanger (E-13) is located inside containment in a direct line with the reactor vessel and reactor coolant pump G2B.
The following drawings have been provided to show the location and orientation of the regenera tive heat exchanger inside containment.
