San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, Unit 1 Your letter of April 18, 1979 forwarded a draft assessment of SEP Topic VI-10.B, Shared Engineered Safety Features, Onsite Emergency Power and Services Systems for Multiple Unit Stations (Non EI&C Related).

That letter requested that Southern California Edison (SCE) examine the evaluation and respond either by confirming that the facts are correct, or by identifying any errors.

COMMENTS ON SEP TOPIC VI-10.B, SHARED SYSTEMS

1. San Onofre Unit 1 shares with Units 2 and 3 not only the service water reservoir but also its associated piping and components. The reservoir, piping and components perform a safety related function for Unit 1, but are used only for fire protection for Units 2 and 3.

Therefore, it is suggested that the second full sentence on Page 4 be revised as follows:

"Based on this review, we identified the Service Water Reservoir (SWR) and its associated piping and components as the only shared components which could affect the safe shutdown capability of Unit 1."
