Southern California Edison Company 23 PARKER STREET IRVINE, CALIFORNIA 92718 December 17, 1990 F. R. NANDY TELEPHONE MANAGER, NUCLEAR LICENSING (714) 454-4504 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attention:
Document Control Desk Washington, D.C.
20555 Gentlemen:
Subject:
Docket No. 50-206 Proposed Amendment Concerning Emergency Diesel Generators San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, Unit 1 This letter withdraws our commitment to provide a proposed amendment to the SONGS 1 operating license regarding the emergency diesel generators. We previously identified a submittal date of December 15, 1990 for this proposed amendment.
As the result of a conservative crankshaft crack propagation analysis, Failure Analysis Associates recommended a crankshaft inspection interval of 50 engine start-stop cycles.
By our March 11, 1989 amendment application, we proposed this inspection interval as a requirement of a temporary license condition.
By Amendment No. 123, dated April 14, 1989, the NRC approved this temporary license condition. By Amendment No. 136, dated November 8, 1990, this license condition became incorporated into the Technical Specifications.
In our March 11, 1989 letter, we also stated our intention to request an increase in the crankshaft inspection interval through a future license amendment. However, we have decided not to request an increase in this limit at this time.
Should you have any questions, please call me.
Very truly yours, cc:
