(714) 587-5400 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attention:

Document Control Desk Washington, D.C. 20555 Gentlemen:

Subject:

Docket No. 50-206 Amendment Application No. 176 San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 1 The purpose of this letter is to inform you of SCE's schedule to provide a supplement to Amendment Application No. 176 regarding the correction of typographical errors (typos) and the revision of Specification 6.4.1, Training. This supplemental amendment will be provided by September 30, 1990.

Amendment Application No. 176 was submitted to the NRC to revise the Appendix A Technical Specifications to correct typos. NRC preliminary review of this application concluded that all typos had not been corrected.

Consequently, we have initiated an extensive effort to identify all typos in the technical specifications and will provide a supplemental amendment with these corrections.

Amendment Application No. 176 also revised Section 6.4.1, Training, to reflect the revision to 10 CFR 55.

However, the revision only included the reference to 10 CFR 55 for licensed operators and incorrectly removed the reference to Section 5.5, Retraining and Replacement Training, of ANSI N18.1-1971.

This error incorrectly removed the requirements of the ANSI Standard for retraining and replacement training of the non-licensed unit staff. The supplement to the amendment will correct Section 6.4.1 to remove only those items superceded by 10 CFR 55 and correctly include the reference to Section 5.5 of ANSI N18.1-1971, which provides guidance on the retraining and replacement training of the non-licensed unit staff.

If you have any questions regarding these schedules, please feel free to contact me.

Very truly yours, 90)06270046i. 9:)0625 DER ADOCK' 0z5C00 6
