SOUTHERN CALIFORNIC EDISON COMPANY F CILITY: San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, Unit No. 1 S3CECT:

SUMMARY

OF MARCH 25,. 1981 MEETING TO DISCUSS THE STATUS OF STEAM GENERATOR REPAIRS

'EC and Southern California Edison (SCE) representatives met in Bethesda, Maryland, on March 25, 1981, to discuss the status of the steam generator r-pair.program. The meeting attendees are listed in Attachment 1.

This meeting was requested by SCE to inform the staff of how Eddy Current Testing (ECT) data and other information could be used to redefine which bes require repair. SCE related the status of the generator repair work d the results of examination of two new tube pulls. The major issues 2 scussed during the meeting are summarized below:

3Beause of intergrannular attack (IGA) of the two new tubes pulled, SCE ided that reduction of the number of tubes to be repaired was iracoropriate. The total number of tubes to be repaired by sleeving is about 7000, and as of March 23, 1981, approximately half or around 3400 3 seves were inserted but installation not completed.

Five hybrid s"eeves (leak-limiting) were completely installed and tested successfully.

SC as halted UT inszections of the leak tight sleeves.

This was done thel limit the occupational exposure. Approximately 360 sleeves neve been accepted and about 650 additional sleeves have been UT inspected and the inspection results are under evaluation.

Approximately 2400 leak tight sleeves and almost 1000 hybrid sleeves have been inserted but ivstallation is not completed. Any leak tight sleeves declared non

=::eptable using UT inspection and all leak tight sleeves not UT inspected w

-l be converted to hybrid sleeves.

SCE Dians to complete all repair work and clear the steam generators on i 24, 1931, with a return to power operation.expected to occur around 1, 931.

At that time the equivalent flow restriction due to Sand actual pluacing *i s expected to be just.

a er -tha;7n 10 percent.

Therefore, the ECCS analysis submitted December for a uniform plugging level of 20% is applicable for restart Sation.

SCE estimates that the total steam generator repair program result in an occupational exposure of 2700 man rem.

SCE committed t: dcument the basis for the new man rem estimates within a couple of 1

o he meeting.
