Southern California Edison (SCE) responded to NRC Generic Letter 90-03, "Relaxation of Staff Position in Generic Letter 83-28, Item 2.2 Part 2 'Vendor Interface for Safety-Related Components'" for San Onofre Units 1, 2 and 3, on September 25, 1990 (Reference A).
The NRC considered SCE's response represented an acceptable resolution of Generic Letter 90-03 and approved the resolution on October 4, 1990 (Reference B).
Following receipt of this NRC SER, the NRC Project Manager for San Onofre Units 2 and 3 requested SCE to provide the status of our implementation of Generic Letter 90-03.
Consistent with this request, SCE is in the process of implementing the vendor interface program as follows:
(a) A program with the NSSS vendor, as described in the VETIP (Vendor Equipment Technical Information Program), which covers all the safety-related components within the NSSS scope of supply has been developed. This program includes provisions for assuring receipt of all technical information provided by the NSSS vendor; and 911004002r91093-0 PDR ADOCK 05000206 PDR

A program of periodic contact with the vendors of other key safety-related components not included in (a) above has also been developed.
(c)
We are currently completing the procedures to implement the vendor interface program.
These procedures will be completed by October 31, 1991.
(d) SCE QA is performing a special surveillance of the vendor interface program to confirm compliance with the requirements of Generic Letter 90-03 which is scheduled to be completed by October 31, 1991.
(e) The verification and validation of the computer program, in accordance with Quality Assurance requirements, associated with the process described in item (b) above will be completed by January 17, 1992.
(f) SCE will provide written confirmation of the completion of items (c) and (d) by November 15, 1991.
