Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Revision to Proposed Change No. 182, March 22, 1988 In accordance with the requirements of Technical Specification 4.16, "Inservice Inspection of Steam Generator Tubing," and Reference 1 an inspection of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, Unit 1 (SONGS 1) steam generators was performed as part of the current mid-cycle outage activities. It is concluded that the results of the inspection and proposed remedial actions need to be provided to the Commission for review and approval under the provisions of part E of Technical Specification 4.16. This determination was previously indicated to the Commission in Reference 2 and this correspondence is the fulfillment of the commitment to provide a report of the inspection results.
Accordingly, find enclosed a report entitled "1988 Steam Generator Inspection Results, San Onofre Unit 1."
This report provides the information necessary to facilitate the NRC review of the inspection results and approval of the proposed corrective actions. Based upon review of the requirements to Technical Specification 4.16 and Regulatory Guide 1.83, it is concluded that your approval is not required prior to the scheduled SONGS 1 restart on April 8, 1988.

Document Control Desk March 25, 1988 Reference 3 provided a proposed revision to Technical Specification 4.16 and requested approval prior to return to power from the current outage. Included in the proposed revision is a requirement to provide a report to the NRC seven days prior to return to service the results of inspections for all tubes in service with defects below the uppermost one inch of sound roll distance.
Accordingly, based upon the current SONGS 1 restart schedule of April 8, 1988, such a report will be provided to the NRC by April 1, 1988.
Pursuant to 10 CFR 170.12, the review and approval of the enclosed steam generator inspection report has been determined to require a fee of $150.00.
Accordingly, SCE's check in the amount of $150.00 is also enclosed.
