Subject:
Docket No. 50-206 Progress on Selected Regulatory Projects San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 1
Reference:
Letter, M. 0. Medford, SCE, to Document Control Desk, NRC, dated February 10, 1987 Enclosed with this letter is the seventeenth edition of our description of the progress on selected regulatory projects now ongoing for San Onofre Unit 1. The previous description of this status was submitted via the reference.
When we started providing monthly updates of the information in this letter, we included updates on major ongoing programs such as Seismic Reevaluation, Environmental Qualification and Fire Protection. At that time we had only recently restarted San Onofre Unit 1 from an extended outage. The Davis-Besse event which occurred in June 1985 brought to the attention of the NRC Commissioners a number of plants which had a large number of major outstanding regulatory projects. It was our understanding that San Onofre Unit 1 was on that list primarily because of the unresolved seismic reevaluation program. We have subsequently had another major refueling/backfit outage during which all three of the major projects identified above were completed, including the seismic program. Of the five projects which remain in the enclosure, none are of the magnitude of the three earlier projects.
Four of the projects are included in our Integrated Living Schedule (ILS) which is updated every six months. We expect the fifth project to be completed shortly with any backfits subsequently identified on the ILS.
There does not appear to be a continuing need to have monthly reports on these 8703240382 870316
