Mr. R. H. Engelken, Director Docket No.

50-206 San Onofre Unit 1

Dear Sir:

IE Bulletin 79-21 Temperature Effects on Level Instrumentation Reference is made to Mr. J. T. Head's letter of September 14, 1979 which provided Southern California Edison's response to the subject IE Bulletin.

That response identified six liquid level measurement systems inside contain ment which needed to be considered in our evaluation.

It was indicated that these six level instruments "consist of differential pressure transmitters with external sealed column reference legs".

This information is incorrect.

The six level instruments identified (LT-430, LT-431, and LT-432 on the pressurizer and LT-450, LT-451 and LT-452 on the steam generators) all consist of differential pressure transmitters utilizing standard reference legs with condensate pots for pressurized vessels rather than "sealed column" reference legs.

Should you have any questions relative to the above correction or our original response, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,,

cc:

Director, Office of Inspection and Enforcement, Division of Reactor Operations Inspection
