Dear Sir:

Southern California Edison Company is requesting a revision to the approved route for shipping spent fuel from the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, San Clemente, California to the General Electric storage facility, Morris, Illinois:

your letters of November 30 and December 10, 1979 and February 28 and September 12, 1980.

The purpose of the revision is to provide an alternate through Southern California using the U.S. Interstate and California freeway system as allowed by NRC's amended regulations of July 3, 1980.

The alternate route would revise page 11 as follows:

California -

Start at San Onofre Nuclear Plant

1. North on I-5 to CA-55
2. CA-55 North to CA-91
3..CA-91 North to I-15E
4. I-15E North to 1-15
5. 1-15 North to 1-40
6. 1-40 East to Arizona State Line Arizona No Change Texas No Change Oklahoma No Change 8 1.0270

-2 Edison would appreciate your review of this request as soon as possible, as we are contemplating resuming shipments to Morris soon. Please contact me if you need any further information.

Very truly yours, JL:bam
