Letter, M. 0. Medford, SCE, to G. E. Lear, NRC, Control Room HVAC Design, June 26, 1986 During a June 24, 1986 meeting with the NRC staff additional information regarding the San Onofre Unit 1 (SONGS 1) control room HVAC design, design basis, and recent repairs was requested. The information was requested in order to facilitate the staff review of return to service. The following items were requested:
- 1. A post-accident control room operator thyroid dose assessment, considering a 250 cfm unfiltered in-leakage value and both, with and without, KI pill and respirator credit.
- 2. A listing of the most recent control room/TSC HVAC testing results.
- 3. The details of how operator use of KI pills and respirator is assured in the procedures.
- 4. A position regarding the charcoal testing in technical specification 4.11.B.2.
- 5. A listing of the repairs to date on the control room HVAC system, the TSC HVAC system and the control room pressure boundary.
- 7. A description of our schedule to resolve NUREG-0737, Item III.D.3.4.
- 8. A position regarding the proper source term for use in the dose Q
calculations.

This information should resolve the NRC return to service concerns regarding the SONGS 1 control room HVAC system.
