Docket No. 50-206 SEP Topic II-4.F Settlement of Structures and Buried Equipment San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 1 References A through G (see Enclosure 1) submitted information regarding the backfill soil conditions at San Onofre Unit 1. These submittals also described evaluations of the impact of these conditions on the plant and required corrective actions.
NRC review of the backfill conditions was documented in References H and I (see Enclosure 1).
Reference I also noted that a subsequent report addressing ongoing assessments was expected. The purpose of this letter is to provide additional information regarding SCE's evaluations of the backfill soil conditions.
During the current refueling outage there have been a number of modifications involving excavation and foundation work. This has provided additional opportunities to evaluate and define the backfill soil conditions at the site. The results of these most recent evaluations are documented in, Addendum 4 to the Soil Backfill Conditions Report. Section 3 of provides an evaluation of the effect of the backfill soils on equipment foundations which were not previously evaluated in References A through G. This evaluation includes items which were identified in Reference I as "Part of long term seismic evaluation program."
All corrective actions identified in Enclosure 2 will be completed during the current outage.
