Docket No. 50-206 In-Service Testing of Check Valves San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, Unit 1 This letter is in response to NRC questions regarding the In-Service Testing (IST) program for pumps and valves for the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, Unit 1. Specifically, the check valves listed below will be partially disassembled, inspected and manually stroked as part of the IST program. We have determined that the valve designs are adequate to permit partial valve disassembly and then reassembly without disturbing the moving internals.
Group 1 Check valves DWS-306, DWS-309, DWN-306 and DWN-309 (Diesel Generator Cooling Water System)
Group 2 Check valves SIS-003, SIS-004 and SIS-010 (Safety Injection System)
Group 3 Check valves SIS-303 and SIS-304 (Safety Injection System)

May 30, 1986 These inspections will be fully implemented at the next San Onofre Unit 1 refueling outage with at least one valve in Groups 1, 2 and 3 and both valves in Group 4 being disassembled and inspected at each refueling.
