G. E. Lear, Director PWR Project Directorate No. 1 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C.
20555 Gentlemen:
Subject:
Docket No. 50-206 Seawall Inspection Report San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 1
References:
- 1. Letter, Darrell G. Eisenhut, NRC, to Kenneth P. Baskin, SCE, dated November 21, 1984
- 2. Letter, M. 0. Medford, SCE, to W. A. Paulson, NRC, dated November 18, 1984 During the return-to--service program on San Onofre Unit 1 in 1984, corrosion of the intake structure rebar was discovered and repaired. In their SER approving plant restart (enclosed with Reference 1), the NRC staff indicated that a field inspection of the seawall should also be performed.
During the current outage an inspection of the seawall was performed. Enclosed is a report on that inspection. The report identifies that minor areas of corrosion were observed but that they will not affect the seawall function for at least 15 years. A monitoring program will be established to monitor future corrosion.
If there are any questions on the enclosure, please let me know.
Very truly yours, Enclosure cc:
