Letter, R. Dietch (SCE) to R. H. Engelken (NRC),
Response to Significant Appraisal Findings, dated September 30, 1980 Reference 1 transmitted IE Inspection Report 50-206/80-17, Health Physics Appraisal Program, as an enclosure with the finding that the existing Health Physics facilities should be evaluated in view of its inadequacies to permit proper performance of a variety of activities. In Reference 2 we indicated that expanded Health Physics facilities would be completed by July, 1982.
As a result of the commitments made in Reference 2, a reevaluation of the Health Physics facilities (Door 16) has been performed and an architectural design for an expanded facility has been completed. This new Health Physics facility is scheduled for completion during August, 1983.
Pending the completion of the new Health Physics structure, an interim facility was made operational in February, 1982 to provide for a low background frisking area, separate male and female decontamination and locker areas, and an additional access point to restricted areas of the plant. The capabilities of this interim facility are sufficient to address the deficiencies noted in Reference 1.

For further clarification, the decontamination facility is described in more detail.
There is one shower stall available for decontamination in SONGS Unit 1.
Male and female health physics technicians are trained to assist in the decontamination of male or female individuals, respectively.
