Southern California Edison Company 23 PARKER STREET IRVINE, CALIFORNIA 92718 F. R. NANDY May 1, 1990 TELEPHONE MANAGER OF NUCLEAR LICENSING (714) 587-5400 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attention:

Document Control Desk Washington, D.C. 20555 Gentlemen:

Subject:

Docket No. 50-206 SEP Topics:

111-2, Wind and Tornado Loadings III-4.A, Tornado Missiles San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 1 As you are aware, we are preparing an analysis which will demonstrate that the tornado modifications proposed for San Onofre Unit 1 will not be necessary.

This analysis will be based on probabilistic risk assessment techniques. We had previously stated that our analysis would be submitted by approximately April 30, 1990; however, due to our heavy work load in preparation for the upcoming Cycle 11 refueling outage, the submittal of this analysis must be rescheduled until August 30, 1990. Since this issue is to be resolved for Cycle 12, which is not scheduled to begin until September of 1992, this four month delay should not significantly impact NRC review.

If you have any questions regarding this matter, please call me.

Very truly yo s, cc:
