Docket No. 50-206 Thermal Shield Conceptual Design and Repair Plan San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 1 On May 15, 1989 the NRC issued Amendment No. 127 to Provisional Operating License No. DPR-13 for San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, Unit 1. This Amendment requires SCE to develop and submit for staff approval, a conceptual design and plan for the repair of the thermal shield within 90 days. The above referenced letter was received on May 18, 1989 and a response was due to the NRC by August 16, 1989.
SCE has requested and received bids for the design modifications and repair of the thermal shield from four vendors. The design modifications and repair plan proposed by the vendors are currently being reviewed by SCE and a vendor will be selected shortly. The process of competitive bidding and careful selection of a vendor has made it necessary to delay the submittal of the thermal shield repair plan. We now expect to submit the conceptual design and plan for repair of the thermal shield for the NRC staff approval by September 30, 1989.
