Docket No. 50-206 Defueled Safety Analysis Report San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 1 Provided as an enclosure is the Defueled Safety Analysis Report (DSAR) for San Onofre Unit 1. This DSAR satisfies the 10 CFR 50.71(e)(4) requirements to update the Final Safety Analysis Report (FSAR) for the permanently shutdown San Onofre Unit 1 on a 24 month basis.
This DSAR has been prepared using the guidance provided in the NRC's Draft Regulatory Guide DG-1067, "Decommissioning of Nuclear Power Reactors," dated June 1997. The DSAR replaces the Updated FSAR for San Onofre Unit 1 which was last updated in December 1991. In accordance with the draft regulatory guidance, this DSAR "...provides a licensing basis for the evaluation of licensee activities under 10 CFR 50.59. This licensing basis will have to be updated to cover decommissioning activities. According to 10 CFR 50.71(e) (4),
subsequent revisions updating the licensing basis must be filed with the NRC at least every 24 months..." Therefore, the next DSAR update for San Onofre Unit 1 will be submitted to the NRC by August 28, 2000.

This information replaces the information previously provided in the Unit 1 UFSAR Revision 3 and the Decommissioning Plan.
