Docket Nos. 50-206, 50-361 and 50-362 10 CFR 140.6 Report R. C. Tang Suit San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, Units 1, 2 and 3 Pursuant to 10 CFR 140.6, this submittal provides the required report of a claim involving alleged bodily injury arising out of, or in connection with, the use of radioactive material at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, Units 1, 2 and 3 (SONGS).
Ms. Rung C. Tang has filed suit on the grounds that she contracted chronic myelogenous leukemia as a result of her exposure to radiation while she was assigned by the NRC at SONGS. Ms. Tang was employed by the NRC as a Resident Inspector at SONGS in 1985 and 1986.
The suit was filed against Southern California Edison Co.(Edison), San Diego Gas & Electric Co., Westinghouse Electric Corp., Combustion Engineering, Inc.,
and Bechtel Corp. Ms. Tang's suit claims compensatory and punitive damages in an unspecified amount.
We believe that the suit is without merit since Ms. Tang's measured exposure while at SONGS was less than one percent of the federally allowed limit for radiation workers and less than ten percent of the allowed limit for the general public. While Ms. Tang was at SONGS, she was monitored by two devices supplied by Edison and one supplied by the NRC.with the following totals, integrated over her entire period of her assignment: Edison TLD, 34 mrem; Edison PIC, 41 mrem; NRC dosimeter, 20 mrem.
