Docket No. 50-206 Additional Information Thermal Shield Support System Replacement San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 1 The purpose of this letter is to provide NRC with the following information:
- 1. The proprietary and non-proprietary versions of Westinghouse drawing 1880E47, Revision 5, Thermal Shield Replacement Support Blocks.

- 2. Westinghouse reconciliation report summarizing the evaluation of the modifications to the thermal shield replacement support blocks and the core barrel.
Modifications were performed to correct the alignment problem experienced while attempting to install the replacement fasteners. The evaluation concludes that the modifications have no adverse impact on the structural adequacy of the replacement support blocks, fasteners, and the core barrel. (Enclosure 2)
- 3. Discussion of the basis for the required torque values for new electric discharge machined (EDM) threads. (Enclosure 3)
- 4. Proprietary and copyright information released by Westinghouse to be used in the NRC Staff Safety Evaluation Report on the thermal shield replacement support system design. (Enclosure 4)
- 5. Response to questions from Mr. W. P. Chen (NRC consultant) of Rockwell International Corporation. The questions were related to the thermal shield replacement support system calculations performed by Westinghouse.
