Southern California Edison Company P. 0. BOX 800 2244 WALNUT GROVE AVENUE ROSEMEAD, CALIFORNIA 91770 K. P. BASKIN TELEPHONE MANAGER OF NUCLEAR ENGINEERING, (213) 572.1401 SAFETY, AND LICENSING April 7, 1982 Director, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attention:
D. M. Crutchfield, Chief Operating Reactors Branch No. 5 Division of Licensing U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C.
20555 Gentlemen:
Subject:
Information Request Regarding Station Blackout, Unresolved Safety Issue A-44 San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 1 By your letter dated July 9, 1981, you requested information relating to diesel generator performance for the years 1976 through 1980, inclusive.
This information was to be provided in tabular form, using an accompanying set of explanations/clarifications.
Your letter requested the above information by October, 1981.
In our reply dated August 13, 1981, we requested an extension until December 15,
,1981. During subsequent telephone contacts with members of your staff, we requested additional extensions, as the actual time and effort involved in completing a satisfactory job from the available data increased.
Enclosed herewith is the requested information pertaining to the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, Unit 1, diesel generators #1 and #2. These generators became operational during the October 1976-March 1977 plant outage, which accounts for the fact that data for the year 1976 is not included.
Should you have any questions relating to this submittal, please contact the undersigned.
Very truly yours, Enclosure A
