Docket No. 50-206 Environmental Qualification of Safety-Related Electrical Equipment San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 1 By letter dated November 30, 1982 you transmitted to us the Safety Evaluation Report for San Onofre Unit 1 regarding the Environmental Qualification of Safety-Related Electrical Equipment. Your letter requested that we reassess our justification for continued operation and within 30 days of receipt of the letter provide information for those items for which justification for continued operation was not previously provided. We responded to this request by letter dated January 18, 1983.
Your letter also requested that we provide our plans for qualification or replacement of equipment whose qualification has not been demonstrated and the schedule for accomplishing this action within 90 days of receipt of your letter.
In the Federal Register dated January 21, 1983, the NRC published the final rule for environmental qualification. The effective date of the rule is February 22, 1983. Section 50.49(g) of the rule requires that we provide similar information to that requested by your November 30, 1982 letter by identifying that equipment previously qualified and submit a schedule for qualification or replacement of the remaining equipment. February 10, 1983 request of November 30, 1982 is superseded by the final rule just published in the Federal Register, and we will provide the required information in accordance with Section 50.49(g) by May 20, 1983.
