December 7, 1982 As noted at the November 10, 1982 meeting with members of the NRC staff, the effort that would normally be expended by SCE on completing these topics has been substantially impacted by the seismic reevaluation program currently in progress. Not only do results from the seismic upgrade frequently affect the SEP topics, such as III-5.A and III-5.8 mentioned above, but the higher priority assigned to improving the seismic withstand capability of San Onofre Unit 1, including the time necessary to work on the problems associated with attaining resolution on program scope and criteria, has required shifting large amounts of manpower that might otherwise have expedited completion of several SEP topics. It should also be noted that although SCE has not provided our final input to the previously indicated topics, according to NUREG-0485, Volume 4, No. 9, there are over 15 topics on which SCE is currently awaiting NRC response.
If you require further information, please let me know.
Very truly yours,
