D. M. Crutchfield, Chief Operating Reactors Branch No. 5 Division of Licensing U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555 Gentlemen:

Subject:

Docket No. 50-206 SEP Topic 111-6 Fuel Storage Building San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 1 By letter dated April 30, 1982 we submitted the results of the seismic reevaluation of the fuel storage building at San Ohofre Unit 1. In that letter SCE identified the fact that backfill soil conditions different from those assumed in the analysis were encountered at the site.

By letter dated August 17, 1982 SCE submitted a detailed evaluation of the in-situ backfill conditions at the site and the effect of these in-situ conditions on the seismic reevaluation of the plant structures, systems and components with the exception of the fuel storage building.

Provided as an enclosure to this letter is a report which provides the results of a reanalysis of the fuel storage building. This reanalysis incorporates.the effects of the in-situ backfill conditions in addition to other changes to the analysis criteria and methodology to reduce some of the conservatisms in the previous analysis. These changes are summarized in Section 1.5 of the report. Based on the results in the enclosed report it is concluded that no additional modifications are required to the fuel storage building.
