Docket 50-206 Safety Injection System Modifications San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 1 By letter dated March 30, 1982, we provided you with a schedule for the replacement of the Safety Injection System (SIS) hydraulic valves and with the results of our conceptual design of Safety Injection System design alternatives. At that time, we indicated that we were proceeding with preliminary engineering of the dedicated SIS/new feedwater pump alternative to determine if redesign is warranted. It was expected that a determination could be made in July, 1982.
The purpose of this letter is to notify you that, due to the complexity of the issues involved (including the potential impact of other major ongoing projects), we have not yet made a decision between replacement valves and the redesign alternative.
Pending our decision, the procurement of the replacement valves is continuing. We expect to make our decision concerning the redesign alternative by September 13, 1982 and will inform you of our decision at that time. Should we determine that redesign is the best alternative, we will also provide you with additional design information.
