CALIFORNIA 91770 K. P. BASKIN TELEPHONE MANAGER OF NUCLEAR ENGINEERING, May 14, 1982 (213) 572-1401 SAFETY, AND LICENSING Director, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attention:
D. M. Crutchfield, Chief Operating Reactors Branch No. 5 Division of Licensing U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C.
20555 Gentlemen:
Subject:
Docket No.
50-206 San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 1 By letter dated April 30, 1982, Southern California Edison Company (SCE) advised the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) that the results of the seismic reevaluation of conduits and cable trays was scheduled for submittal to the NRC by May 15, 1982. During our conversation on May 13, 1982 I advised you that there will be a delay in the submittal of those results.
The delay is caused by the extensive amount of preparationby SCE and its contractors for the meeting with the NRC on May 20, 1982 to discuss the results of the Balance of Plant Mechanical Equipment and Piping Seismic Reevaluation Program. A revised schedule for submittal of the results of our evaluation of conduits and cable trays will be forwarded to the NRC following the May 20 meeting.
In addition I indicated that, based on incomplete results, indications are that on the order of twenty (20) percent of the conduit and tray supports may not meet the reevaluation criteria to restore design margins. However, no structural integrity problems are indicated at this time.
If you have any questions regarding this information, please call me.
Very truly yours, 8205 z~oC>
