IE Bulletin No. 80-24 Prevention of Damage Due to Water Leakage Inside Containment San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 1 The subject IE Bulletin requests information regarding open cooling water systems and closed cooling water systems inside containment. Among the items requested are "experience with system leakage" and "history and type of repairs to coolers and piping systems." This type of request requires an exhaustive search of operating and maintenance records which cover a period of twelve years. This effort will require more than the 45 days allotted by IE Bulletin No. 80-24. Accordingly, we must defer our reply until March 1, 1981.
As you know, San Onofre Unit 1 is presently undergoing repairs to the steam generators, with an expected return to power operation in late March, 1981.
This delay in responding to IE Bulletin No. 80-24.was discussed with a member of your staff on December 24, 1980.
