Docket Nos. 50-206, 50-361, and 50-362 Postponement of Ingestion Pathway Zone Emergency Plan Exercise San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Units 1, 2 and 3 This letter documents the schedule change for the Ingestion Pathway Zone (IPZ) exercise, which was discussed during a recent telephone conversation with Mr. Blaine Murray (NRC, Region IV).
The IPZ exercise originally planned for 1997 at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) is now scheduled to occur in 1999. This new schedule is an exception to the SONGS Emergency Plan, Section 8.1.3.1, which requires that "all major elements of the plan and the emergency organization are tested within a six-year period."
The IPZ exercise was postponed at the request of Mr. Eugene Bates of the NRC Region IV office to facilitate NRC participation. This request for postponement was agreed upon by Mr. Ben Tong, of the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services, who holds this scheduling authority for the State of California.
This exercise was last conducted in 1991.
