San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, Unit 1 This report is being submitted in accordance with technical specification (TS) 3.5.10, Action 27, of Facility Operating License No. DPR-13, San Onofre Unit
- 1. The TS requires that in Modes 1, 2, 3 or 4 with the Plant Stack Wide Range Gas Monitor, R-1254, inoperable, a preplanned alternate method (PPAM) of monitoring the stack radiation must be implemented within 72 hours8.333333e-4 days <br />0.02 hours <br />1.190476e-4 weeks <br />2.7396e-5 months <br />, and if the monitor is not returned to operable status within 7 days after initiation of the PPAM, Southern California Edison (SCE) must submit a special report.
On November 11, 1992, R-1254 exhibited mid-range signal noise spiking, and was declared inoperable. The PPAM was implemented as required. Due to the intermittent nature of the problem, several days were required to confirm the cause of the noise spikes to be a malfunctioning detector assembly. The detector assembly was replaced, and following a primary calibration and satisfactory functional testing (which also required several days), R-1254 was returned to service on November 23, 1992.
