Docket No. 50-206 SEP Topic 111-6 Seismic.-Design.Considerations San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 1 On December 1-3, 1982 SCE and its consultants met with the NRC to discuss a number of issues related to the seismic reevaluation of San Onofre Unit 1. Open items from that meeting were summarized in a memorandum from William T. Russell to Frank J. Miraglia dated December 29, 1982.

SCE's responses to these items were discussed with the NRC in meetings on May 2-4, 1983.

The purpose of this letter is to document those responses.

As summarized in Mr. Russell's memorandum, three major issues remained open after the December 3 meeting. Responses to these three issues are provided in Enclosure I. A number of additional open items were discussed in Enclosure 2 to Mr. Russell's memorandum. Responses are provided in Enclosure II to all of these items except for items 4 and 14 and additional information required for item 5. In addition, specific aspects of the response to issue 2 which relate to item 4 are not included in the enclosed response. This information will be provided by June 10, 1983. Revised criteria for the Balance of Plant Mechanical Equipment and Piping Seismic Reevaluation Program are provided in Enclosure III.

In addition to the items from Mr. Russell's December 29, 1982 memorandum, several other topics were discussed at the May 2, 3 and 4 meetings. As a result of these discussions, information is also required regarding (1) the structural integrity of the spent fuel pool, (2) interfaces 8305250512 930523 PDR ADOCK 05000206 P
