Docket No. 50-206 Deferment of Unit 1 Generic Letter 92-01 Response San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 1 Generic Letter (GL) 92-01, "Reactor Vessel Structural Integrity," Revision 1, was issued on March 6, 1992.
The generic letter requested information to allow the NRC Staff to assess compliance with reactor vessel structural integrity requirements and commitments. On April 13, 1992, SCE contacted Mr. George Kalman, Senior Project Manager for San Onofre Unit 1 in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR), to discuss the request and the planned permanent shutdown of Unit 1.
SCE requested to defer the response to GL 92-01 for Unit 1. The basis for the request is that reactor vessel structural integrity considerations are long term operating issues, and a permanent shutdown of Unit 1 is currently planned. Mr. Kalman agreed that SCE need not submit a response to GL 92-01 for Unit 1 at this time. SCE agreed that if the unit were to operate beyond the current cycle, a detailed response to GL 92-01 would be submitted before the Cycle 12 startup. Therefore, a response to GL 92-01 for San Onofre Unit 1 will not be submitted at this time.
