Dear Sir:
By letter dated November 24, 1978 you transmitted to us IE Bulletin No.78-12A, a supplement to IE 78-12 "Atypical Weld Material In Reactor Pressure Vessel Welds". IE 78-12A requested that we respond to a portion of the items requested by IE 78-12 within 120 days. This letter is to inform you that we will be unable to respond to your request within the 120 day period.
As we indicated to you in our November 28, 1978 letter, we are seeking assistance from our NSSS vendor, Westinghouse, in responding to IE 78-12A. Westinghouse has informed us that they have been involved in meetings with the NRC and other vendors to discuss the format and content requirements of IE 78-12A. They are in the process of preparing proposals to respond to the bulletin. It has been indicated to us by Westinghouse that the information necessary to support a response to IE 78-12 will be available by October 26, 1979. Until we have received the information from Westinghouse, a response to IE 78-12A will not be available. At such time that.we do receive the information from Westinghouse, we will inform you as to when a response to IE 78-12A will be submitted to you.
