Dear Mr. Wharton:
This is in reply to your letter of January 25, 1980 concerning the availability of Applicants' responses to Staff questions, the availability of seismology information at the local public document room in Mission Viejo, and the avail ability of reports from Doctors Andrews, Davis and Slemmons, and confirms our
,.phone conversation of January 31 and February 4, 1980.
With respect to Applicants' responses to Staff questions, the Staff does not make distribution of this material to parties to a proceeding. The material is, however, sent to local public document rooms where it is available for.
inspection and copying. I am advised that this material is submitted by the Applicants as part of the Final Safety Analysis Report (FSAR) and should be found in specific volumes of the FSAR which are marked as containing answers to Staff questions. The FSAR is on file at the local public document room.
Regarding the availability of documents at the local public document room in Mission Viejo, I have been informed by the Local Public Document Room Branch that the material you are seeking'should be on file. This appears to be con firmed by the accession list, copy attached, which is current through August 27, 1979. A comparable, up-to-date list is available at the local public document room for reference by users, as are instructions for use of the system. For your information, I am enclosing a copy of a note to me from Mrs. Souder of the 1PDR Branch, concerning your -inquiry.
In regard to your concern about the availability of information referred to in Applicants' replies to your interrogatories, at the local public document room, it is not possible without.further identification from you to deter mine whether the material is in fact at the local public-document room. To the extent that you may have reference to the Preliminary Safety Analysis Report (PSAR) relating to the construction permit proceeding, which Applicants have referred to in their responses, the PSAR is not at the local public OFFICE

-2 document as indicated in the attached note. I have, however, requested that it be sent to the local public document-room as soon as possible.- Since a hard copy is not available, it will be available in microfiche form.
Finally, it is my understanding that Drs. Andrews, Davis and:Slemmons have not, as of this time, submitted any reports to the Staff. They have, however, submitted certain questions to the Staff for response by the Applicants the Staff's questionsto Applicants have, I.understand, included these questions.
Furthermore, Mr. Rood informs me that it is-his recollection that he did not promise to send such reports to Intervenors, but rather, that they would be available as appendices to the Staff's Safety Evaluation Report for San Onofre Units 2 and 3, a copy-of which will, of course, be sent to you upon issuance.
