SUBJECT:

SUMKARY OF MEETING TO DISCUSS DEWATERING WELL CAVITIES -

SAN ON CLEAR STATION, DOCKET NOS. 0-62 On Friday December 1, 1978, I met with representatives of Southern California Edison (SCE), their consultant Woodward-Clyde and Bechtel Power Corporation to discuss the status of the dewatering well cavities.- The meeting was held in Bechtel's San Francisco office and a list of attendees is enclosed.

In'summary, Wells-i, 2, 3A, and 9 have been filled with concrete and no evidence of cavities was encountered. Demobilization work at Well 8 is complete and has been described inthe August, 1978 report on Well 8. Recent investigative work on Welis3, 4,,5, 6 and 7 was-reviewed during the meeting.

Most of the discussion centered around the cross hole seismic survey procedure for cavity detection. This technique has been used at Well 3 and the data from the cross hole seismic survey has been used to evaluate this procedure for cavity detection. The analysis of the data indicates that the wave form and the arrival of the P-wave can be used to detect cavities.

In addition -to Well 3, Wells 4, 5 and 10 will be investigated with this technique.

DEC 191978 Preliminary profiles and contour maps of the Well 6 investigation were presented and discussed. Documentation of the exploration grouting program at Well 6 is in preparation and will be submitted in January. Buried-utility ducts near Well 7 have caused problems with drilling exploration holes. A-shallow excavation was made to expose the utilities and avoid this problem. The exploration grouting program for Well 7 should be completed by the end of December.
