Dear Mr. Pigott:
The purpose of this letter is to determine whether it will be possible to arrange a site visit of the San Onofre facility for the Licensing Board and representatives of the parties to the operating licensing proceeding.
Although we have some flexibility on timing, it now appears that, from the Board's standpoint, Thursday, April 30, might be the best time. Coming the day after the prehearing conference in San Clemente, this date would obviate a separate trip to the West Coast for two Board Members.
While I suppose it would be possible to schedule a site visit just before the hearing, again avoiding some unnecessary travel, it seems likely that other matters might arise and make that time inconvenient for at least some of us.
I would appreciate your discussing this matter with the Applicants and letting me know whether an April 30 site visit can be arranged..
Because various aspects of emergency planning are in contention in the proceeding, the site visit should include, to the extent practicable, a tour of the vicinity that will give us somE. concrete appreciation of how the plan might work.
