REVIEW OF THE SPRING 2012 REFUELING OUTAGE STEAM GENERATOR TUBE INSPECTION REPORT TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY SEOUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT, UNIT 1 DOCKET NO. 50-327 By letter dated December 17, 2012 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession Nos. ML12359A037), Tennessee Valley Authority (the licensee) submitted the Cycle 18 Refueling Outage (spring 2012) information summarizing the results of the spring 2012 steam generator (SG) tube inspection report per Technical Specification (TS)

Section 6.9.1.16.2 for Sequoyah Nuclear Plant (SON), Unit 1. The licensee provided additional information by letter dated May 13, 2013 (ADAMS Accession Nos. ML13235A138).

The SGs at SON, Unit 1 are Westinghouse model 57AG SGs that were installed in 2003. Each SG contains 4983 thermally treated Alloy 690 tubes. Each tube has a nominal outside diameter of 0.75 inches and a nominal wall thickness of 0.043 inches. The tubes were hydraulically expanded into the tubesheet and are supported by several Type 409 stainless steel, lattice grid tube supports. The U-bend portion of the tubes is supported by diagonal and vertical straps.

The licensee provided the scope, extent, methods, and results of their SG tube inspections in the document referenced above. Additionally, the licensee described corrective actions (Le., tube plugging) taken in response to the inspection findings.

Based on a review of the information provided, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff concludes that the licensee provided the information required by the TSs. In addition, the NRC staff concludes that there are no technical issues that warrant followup action at this time since the inspections appear to be consistent with the objective of detecting potential tube degradation and the inspection results appear to be consistent with industry operating experience at similarly designed and operated units.
