- FLOOD MODE OPERATION IMPROVEMENT STRATEGY FOR WATTS BAR/SEQUOYAH - DOCKET NOs 50-390, 50-327, 50-328

Dear Mr. Shea:

This refers to the meeting conducted at your request at the Region II office on December 3, 2012, at 10 a.m. The meeting's purpose was to discuss flood related improvement strategies at the Sequoyah and Watts Bar nuclear plants.

Enclosed are a list of attendees and the presentation handouts. During this meeting, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) provided an update to NRC management on TVAs recent actions to identify issues and improve performance with regard to readiness to respond to flooding at the Watts Bar and Sequoyah nuclear plant. Topics discussed included: Overall TVA nuclear fleet flood related issues and differences between licensing basis and implementing documents for both sites. TVA also discussed site flood preparation and response, plant modifications, equipment reliability, procedures, site awareness, and the TVA the fleet flood mode operation improvement strategy. During the meeting, TVA committed to supplement the June 13, 2012 commitment letter as necessary to docket finalized commitments resulting from plans to perform modifications to improve flood mode Stage II preparations times, implementation of the flood mode equipment reliability project, and plans to perform a review of Watts Bar and Sequoyah flood mode procedures jointly, in order to obtain additional improvements.
