OF JULY 30, 2013, PRE-APPLICATION MEETING WITH WOLF CREEK NUCLEAR OPERATING CORPORATION REGARDING TRANSITION TO WESTINGHOUSE METHODOLOGIES FOR PERFORMING CORE DESIGN AND NON-LOSS-OF-COOLANT ACCIDENT SAFETY ANALYSES (TAC NO. MF2309)
On July 30,2013, a Category 1 public meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff and representatives of Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation (WCNOC, the licensee) and its contractors at NRC Headquarters, Rockville, Maryland. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the licensee's planned submittal of an amendment request for Wolf Creek Generating Station (WCGS) to transition from its current methodologies to NRC-approved Westinghouse methodologies for performing the core design and the non loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA) safety analyses at WCGS. The meeting notice and agenda are located in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) at Accession No. ML13179A101.
The licensee presented information on the background and content of the proposed request (ADAMS Accession No. ML13205A214). The proposed application is large and complex, and would revise the technical speci'fications based on (1) transition to Westinghouse core design and non-LOCA safety analysis methodologies, (2) transition to Westinghouse setpoint methodology, and (3) full-scope implementation of the alternative source term. This was the second pre-application meeting on the proposal, following a meeting on September 20, 2012 (see meeting summary at ADAMS Accession No. ML12276A265).
The NRC staff queried the licensee about several aspects of the proposed changes and discussed potential challenges to the review schedule. No regulatory decisions were made at the meeting.
