OF CONFERENCE CALL HELD ON JULY 19, 2013, BETWEEN THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION AND ENTERGY NUCLEAR OPERATIONS, INC., CONCERNING DRAFT REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION RELATED TO REACTOR VESSEL INTERNALS PROGRAM AND INSPECTION PLAN -INDIAN POINT NUCLEAR GENERATING UNIT NOS. 2AND 3 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and representatives of Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc., held a telephone conference call on July 19, 2013, to discuss and clarify the staff's draft request for additional information (D-RAI) related to reactor vessel internals program and the reactor vessel internals inspection plan. The telephone conference call was useful in clarifying the intent of the staff's D-RAI.
During the telephone call, the staff informed the applicant that it will delete a portion of the request in D-RAI 11-B, number 5, because the staff's position, as described in the D-RAI, is that either the plant-specific analysis needs to be provided in a timely fashion or the applicant should inspect the components during the initial inspection. The RAI will be reworded as follows:
In the absence of an NRC-approved plant-specific analysis for the lower support column bodies, please explain how these components will maintain their intended function during the PEO, or why they should not be inspected during the initial inspections.
No other changes to the requests for additional information were needed.
