Proposed RR 13-MN-002 Pre-Submittal Meeting
Reason for Request
Use Risk-Informed/Safety Based (RIS_B) ISI process in lieu of traditional Section XI requirements By focusing inspections on the most safety-significant welds, the number of inspections can be reduced while maintaining protection of public health and safety Proposed Alternative and Basis for Use RIS_B is based on Code Case N-716 N-716 is based, in large part, on NRC-Approved EPRI TR 112657 Rev. B-A EPRI TR 112657 Rev. B-A satisfies RG 1.174 and RG 1.178 EPRI TR 112657 Rev. B-As steps applied to RIS-B RR:
Scope Definition Consequence Evaluation Degradation Mechanism Evaluation Piping Segment Definition Risk Categorization Inspection/NDE Selection Risk Impact Assessment Implementation and Feedback 5

Proposed RR 13-MN-002 Pre-Submittal Meeting
- N-716:
- Replaces detailed evaluation of each piping segments safety significance with a generic population of high safety significant (HSS) segments based on exhaustive risk informed ISI experience to date
- PRA Internal flooding analysis required to identify any plant-specific HSS segments
- Low safety significant (LSS) welds shall include all other class 2, 3 or non-class welds not classified as HSS
- All piping components subject to current ASME requirements, regardless of risk classification, will continue to receive ASME pressure testing 6
