- Jason, In an e-mail dated 6/21/13, the NRC staff sent a question to Duke regarding Section 10 of the subject relief request as follows:
It looks like Duke stated they used two different mythologies in examining the weld. The licensee said they examined the weld to Section V, Article 4 and in another section of the relief Proposed Alternative they said they used ASME Code,Section XI, Appendix VIII to examine the weld. So they need to clarify what they did.
A conference call was conducted on 6/26 with the NRC to discuss the above conflicting information.
During this call, Duke provided the response and the NRC staff agreed to it as follows:
Section 10.4 of the relief request references ASME Section V, Article 4, which is not accurate. The examination was performed to Appendix VIII qualified procedure PDI-UT-6, which is accurately identified in Section 10.5 of the relief request. Review of the UT data confirmed that the equipment selection and method of calibration met the examination requirements stated within the procedure.
