.T.

On behalf of the 1400 working men and women of Ironworkers Local 229, we are writing to express'6br strong support for Southern California Edison's License Amendment Request (LAR) and No Significant Hazards Determination. We support the safe restart of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station.

rn C/D The NRC has been entrusted with ensuring the safety of nuclear facilities and their workers, many of whom are members of Ironworkers Local 229. Making sure our members have well-paying jobs is important, but nothing is more vital than the safety of the workers and the general public. I would not allow my members to work in an environment that is unsafe.

I have attended recent NRC meetings and have been closely watching this issue for several months.

I am taken aback by the way the regulatory process has deteriorated into a politicized, one-sided circus. A vocal minority is being permitted to highjack important proceedings and undermine public engagement.

On matters as important and complex as the restart of a nuclear power plant, the NRC must safeguard the integrity of what historically has been a rigorous regulatory process to ensure public safety. The focus must be on science and technology.

The NRC must ensure all voices are heard and conduct itself as an honest broker of all opinions.

We urge you to exercise your oversight authority to prevent long-term damage to the integrity of the NRC. The future of energy in Southern California is depending upon a rigorous, professional, and balanced regulatory process. Our safety depends on it.

Sincerely, BusT-hss Manager/
