Seeing that our society does not have any plans to switch to any futuristic new forms of generating electricity, heavily regulated nuclear power plants are appropriate. Nuclear is clean and for the most part reliable. It generates a lot of California's energy. Wind and solar are good in theory but in reality they do not generate nearly enough energy for modem society expectations. I suggest that San Onofre postpone their re-opening and run thorough safety checks before re-opening. Uranium is much more abundant than oil/gas, and coal has killed many more people than nuclear through heavy pollution. Though nuclear is not the best option it is the best option readily available to us at the moment. Even if it was shut down it would be a store house for nuclear waste and no one would get their way.
