Seismic Reevaluations, dated April 9, 2013 On March 12, 2012, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued Reference 1 to all power reactor licensees and holders of construction permits in active or deferred status. Enclosure 1 of Reference 1 contains specific Requested Actions, Requested Information, and Required Responses associated with Recommendation 2.1, Seismic Evaluations. Reference 1 requires a "60-day response" in which each addressee must submit: (1) its intent to follow the developed guidance, or (2) an alternative approach including acceptance criteria. In accordance with References 1 and 2, the 60-day responses are due to the NRC by April 29, 2013.
Duke Energy intends to respond to Enclosure 1 of Reference 1 by following the approach described in Reference 3, and on the schedule provided in Reference 3.
This letter contains no new regulatory commitments.
