- SALEM Emergency Class At approximately 0924 (EDT) on April 3, 2013 a deceased Atlantic sturgeon was captured from the Salem Unit 1 Circulating Water System (CWS) intake trash racks at the Salem Generating Station. The sturgeon was confirmed by a site biological expert to be an Atlantic sturgeon, which is an endangered species. Atlantic sturgeons are federally listed as endangered species under the Endangered Species Act of 1973 as amended. Nuclear Environmental Affairs has made a determination that this is a 4 hour4.62963e-5 days <br />0.00111 hours <br />6.613757e-6 weeks <br />1.522e-6 months <br /> report to the NRC under RAL 11 8.2.a.
A Report was made to the National Marine Fisheries Service at 0950 (EDT) and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection at 1000 (EDT) to inform them of the incidental sturgeon take that occurred today.
The license has notified the NRC Resident Inspector, the Lower Alloways Creek Township, and the State of New Jersey.
This logbook report has been sent to the R1DO (Dwyer) and the NRC Endangered Species Group.
