1.0 INTRODUCTION
The Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station (VCSNS) utilizes a pressurized water reactor rated at 2900 MWT.
The maximum dependable capacity is 966 MWe.
The station is located approximately 26 miles northwest of Columbia, South Carolina.
2.0 OPERATIONAL DATA For the reporting period of January 1 through December 31, 2012, the station operated at a capacity factor of 85.8% (using maximum dependable capacity) and a unit availability of 84.9%. The reactor was critical for a total of 7671.7 hours8.101852e-5 days <br />0.00194 hours <br />1.157407e-5 weeks <br />2.6635e-6 months <br />, the generator remained on line 7490.7 hours8.101852e-5 days <br />0.00194 hours <br />1.157407e-5 weeks <br />2.6635e-6 months <br /> and the total gross electrical energy generated for 2012 was 7,568,930 MWH.
3.0 OPERATING
SUMMARY
The Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station (VCSNS) Unit No.1 operated at 100% power from January 1 st through January 2 0 th. On January 2 0 th power was reduced to 90% to support main turbine control valve testing. Power was restored to 100% on January 2 1st.
VCSNS operated at 100% power from January 2 1st to April 2 7th On April 2 7 th power was reduced to approximately 92% to support main turbine control valve testing. Power was restored to 100% on April 2 8th VCSNS operated at 100% power from April 2 8th to June 2 2 nd. On June 2 2nd power was reduced to approximately 92% to support main turbine control valve testing. Power was restored to 100% on June 2 3 rd.
VCSNS operated at 100% power from June 2 3 rd to October 7t. On October 7 th power was reduced to approximately 98% for fuel coast down in preparation for Refueling Outage Twenty (RF 20). On October 8 th power was reduced to approximately 97% for fuel coast down. On October 9 th power was reduced to approximately 85% to test the main steam safety valves. On October 13 th the unit was taken offline for RF 20. The unit remained shutdown for the refueling outage until December 6 th when the

Reactor power was restored to 100% on December 12th VCSNS operated at 100% power from December 12th to December 15th On December 15 th power was reduced to approximately 98% to support instrument calibration and testing of the Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS). Reactor power was restored to 100% on December 16tl.
Refueling Outage 20 Summary The main generator breaker was opened at 0031 hours3.587963e-4 days <br />0.00861 hours <br />5.125661e-5 weeks <br />1.17955e-5 months <br /> on October 13th for Refueling Outage 20. The outage duration was originally planned through November 2 1 st, however reactor vessel head repair resulted in a 16.3 outage extension.

" "A' Train Battery Replacements Reactor vessel head penetration repair Refueling Outage 20 duration was 55 days. Outage planned duration was 39 days. Personnel exposure in 2012 due to the outage was approximately 93.993 Rem, based on electronic dosimeters.
Document Control Desk LTD 292 RC-1 3-0045 Page 6 of 8 Forced Power Reduction >20% Exceeding 4 Hours None 4.0 EXPOSURES Attachment I lists the number of station, utility, and other personnel (including contract personnel) receiving exposures greater than 100 mrem/year and their associated man-rem exposure according to work and job function.
The exposures reported are estimated doses based on electronic dosimeters.
5.0 FAILED FUEL VCSNS did not have any indications of failed fuel in 2012.
