KEWAUNEE POWER STATION SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION REGARDING FLOODING ASPECTS OF RECOMMENDATION 2.3 On March 12, 2012, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued, "Request for Information Pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of FederalRegulations 50.54(f) Regarding Recommendations 2.1, 2.3, and 9.3 of the Near-Term Task Force Review of Insights from the Fukushima Dai-ichi Accident," to all power reactor licensees and holders of construction permits in active or deferred status. Flooding Recommendation 2.3 requires licensees to perform flood protection walkdowns to identify and address plant-specific degraded, non-conforming, or unanalyzed conditions and verify the adequacy of monitoring and maintenance for protection features.

In a letter dated November 27, 2012, Dominion Energy Kewaunee, Inc. (DEK) provided the flood protection walkdown report as DEK's response to Flooding Recommendation 2.3 for Kewaunee Power Station (KPS). In Section D: "Effectiveness of Flood Protection Features," subsection, "Assessment of Maintenance Activities that Expose SSCs to Flood Hazards," the DEK response references minor enhancements made to KPS procedure SA-KW-EVL-GEN-001, "Planned Barrier Impairment Control." The procedure was revised to change a calculation for height of a temporary barrier installed for flood protection. Since submittal of the flood protection walkdown report, six other procedures have been identified that include this same calculation:

" CMP-02-04, SW - Service Water Traveling Screens Installation and Removal

" PMP-02-03, SW - Service Water Pump Replacement (QA-1)

" PMP-04-15, CW - Lowering and Raising Screenhouse Gates (QA-2)

  • MA-KW-MCM-SW-003, Service Water System Traveling Screen Sprocket Teeth Insert Replacement

" MA-KW-MPM-SW-008, Traveling Screen 11B2 Drive Train Maintenance and Chain Adjustment

  • MA-KW-MPM-SW-016, Inspection of Service Water Strainer This condition was entered into the Corrective Action Program and the procedures have been revised.
