SWCLC Southwest California Legislative Council 26790 Ynez Court I Temecula, CA 92591 1(866) 676-5090 xvww.SouthwestCA.biz March 18, 2013 Chairwoman Allison MacFarlane U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555-0001 RE: Safe Restart and Operation of San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 2 Position: SUPPORT The Southwest California Legislative Council, an advocacy coalition of the Temecula Valley, Murrieta, Wildomar and Lake Elsinore Valley Chambers of Commerce representing more than 2,500 businesses, strongly supports the safe restart and operation of the San Onofre Nuclear Generation Station (SONGS)
Unit 2.
The SWCLC believes that Southern California Edison should be allowed to restart and operate SONGS as proposed in their Return to Services Action Plan if the Nuclear Regulatory Commission determines they have completed all the compensatory and corrective actions that been requested in the Confirmatory Action Letter.
The SWCLC is dedicated to researching public policy issues, educating the public and our business members on these matters and taking action to protect the interests of Southwest Riverside County. As concerned residents and business owners, we believe SONGS is a policy issue that impacts everyone in our region, their lifestyle and the success of their business. Without SONGS in operation, there is no comparable local source of energy to offset the loss that our businesses need to ensure a vibrant economy. Cost, lead time and environmental impact from developing new energy sources to fill that gap would be prohibitive and deleterious to the economic well-being of our region.
We urge you to publically support the Safe Restart and Operation of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station.
If we can be of further assistance please feel free to contact us.
